Hi! We’re glad you’re here! Allow us to introduce ourselves! We’re Mike and Lorrie and we started 42/7.
The old adage, “necessity is the mother of invention” couldn’t be more true! November 2017 we got home from the hospital with twin babies and we went from having all the time in the world to workout to operating in survival mode. As owners of a CrossFit gym, you’d think that having the time to workout would be a piece of cake, but we quickly discovered that we had no time to workout. We didn’t even have the time it would take to drive back and forth to the gym. Yep, you heard that right… we own a gym and didn’t have time to go to it to workout.
Group classes like those in CrossFit are awesome, but not everyone has the time to spare to drive to get to them, especially in a city like Los Angeles. So we started doing little things here in there in the garage… and since there were two babies, everything happened in shifts. So Mike would get 20 minutes in between the morning nap, then I would go during the next nap. And if we had any gas left in the tank at the end of the day, we might do 10-15 minutes of something else once the babies went to sleep. (Luckily for us they pretty much slept at the same time.) We kept working out this way, and month by month discovered that you don’t need to spend hours in the gym to get results. In fact, I have never been in better shape than she is now, ten months post partum.
Since we were working out in our garage, we no longer had access to all the equipment and fitness toys that we had at our gym, but that didn’t matter. Most workouts we did with dumbbells and/or kettlebells because it was faster than loading a barbell and it was easier for Lorrie just easing back in to working out. So not only did we not need much equipment, but we didn’t need much time. And that’s how we came up with 42/7! It’s a fitness program for people like us who are on the go 24/7.
